What is Snowflake?

Snowflake is a managed data platform for SQL analytics, data engineering, sharing and related AI workloads. Its architecture separates stored data, compute and platform services; virtual warehouses provide independently allocated compute for supported work. The platform also offers other execution paths, so a warehouse-only estimate can miss services used by a complete pipeline. Edition, location, workload and retention choices matter to procurement.

Alternatives to Snowflake

Databricks

Databricks brings data engineering, SQL analytics and machine learning workflows into a data and AI platform. Teams use notebooks, pipelines, SQL warehouses and governed data assets for different parts of a delivery process. Deployment and billing boundaries vary between serverless services and classic resources in a customer cloud account. Unity Catalog provides the platform governance context; the public open-source project should not be assumed to include every managed capability.

Time-limited usage-credit trial

Model credits by workload and compute behaviour, then include storage, transfer, service-specific usage and edition terms. Compare comparable account regions and retention.

The standard AI Data Cloud trial offers $400 in credits for up to 30 days, ending earlier if consumed. A separate Cortex Code CLI trial has different scope; neither establishes ongoing free production access.
