Software sponsored article costs: what to include in a publishing quote

Understand sponsored software article pricing by separating production, publication, revisions, assets and distribution. Use a blank quotation checklist before commissioning.

The short answer: agree the deliverable before the fee

SoftwareRadar quotes sponsored articles after agreeing the topic, format, material and production scope. We do not publish a fixed article tariff or a universal market-price range. A supplied draft needing light editing is a different brief from a new walkthrough requiring a demo, screenshots and detailed revisions. Use the software sponsored-content page to choose a format, then request a quote for the actual work.

Separate writing from publication and distribution

An article project can contain several kinds of work. Ask whether the quoted fee covers producing the article, publishing it and any additional promotion. Record each included deliverable and any optional item with its price. A page being published does not by itself promise a homepage slot, newsletter placement, paid distribution or a specific number of visits. Discuss any such requirement before commissioning, so both sides assess the same offer.

Three different production briefs

  • Supplied draft: you provide the proposed text, product material and authorised assets; agree the review and editing needed before acceptance.
  • Commissioned explainer: you provide the product background and intended reader; agree the outline, writing, fact checks, assets and revisions to be produced.
  • Product walkthrough or comparison: define the workflow, demo access, product versions, evidence and the limits of any observations before setting the production scope.

These are scope examples, not price packages or a promise that every proposal will be accepted. The article submission guidelines explain what to send.

Make review work predictable

Name one factual-review contact and agree how feedback will be consolidated. Separate factual corrections from a changed brief: replacing the target audience, adding another product or introducing a new workflow can change the work required. Agree the number of included review rounds, the response window and the handling of additional scope. Include the people who own product facts and asset permissions before setting a publication target.

Keep tax, currency and payment terms explicit

Request a quote that states the currency, the quoted amount, whether tax is included or additional, any optional items and the payment schedule. Ask the supplier to explain any uncertainty in the actual proposal. This checklist does not determine tax treatment or supply a price. It helps you keep the commercial amounts and deliverables together so an internal approver can assess the project without guessing what a headline fee includes.

A sponsored article and an annual listing are separate purchases

SoftwareRadar’s existing vendor listing is €129 per year and renews annually until renewal is turned off. It gives the vendor a managed product profile under the listing terms. It does not include commissioned article production. A sponsored article is separately scoped and quoted. Compare the annual listing and article formats according to the deliverable you need; do not add the listing price to an article budget unless you intend to purchase both.

The blank worksheet records the proposed deliverable, included scope, quoted amount, currency, tax basis, owner and unresolved questions. Leave an unknown amount blank instead of treating it as zero. Retain the supplier’s written quote with the worksheet. No example fee, rate card or checkout amount is prefilled.

Request a proposal for your software article

Send the product website, working title, intended reader, available material, preferred format, production needs, budget and target window. If you already have a draft, identify who wrote it and who can approve its product facts and assets. Use the article proposal form or the blank publishing brief.
