Informatica IDMC vs Qlik Talend Cloud
Compare Informatica IDMC and Qlik Talend Cloud for integration, data quality, hybrid execution, governance requirements and the capacity commitments in an enterprise proposal.
Which pipeline approach fits?
Shortlist Informatica IDMC when its selected integration and management services fit the programme. Shortlist Qlik Talend Cloud when its edition, integration and quality capabilities fit the same source-to-consumer workflow. Compare written service scopes rather than umbrella platform names. Connector access, runtime responsibility, quality rules and consumption capacity must be included in the proposal before a price or feature comparison is meaningful.
Seven differences that change the shortlist
| Buying question | Informatica IDMC | Qlik Talend Cloud |
|---|---|---|
| Offer structure | Platform of selected data-management services | Edition-based data integration and quality offering |
| Integration scope | Choose the required ingestion and integration services | Choose the required movement and transformation capabilities |
| Quality scope | Specify rules, observability and related service entitlements | Specify quality capabilities included in the selected edition |
| Metadata and governance | Name the catalog, lineage and governance services required | Verify the required metadata and governance capability by edition |
| Hybrid execution | Define runtime, source connectivity and operating responsibility | Define the selected deployment and source connectivity arrangement |
| Consumption | Apply the actual service and IPU consumption definitions | Apply capacity definitions for volume, job executions and duration |
| Legacy distinction | Do not assume an older Informatica contract grants every cloud service | Retired Talend Open Studio is not the current free edition |
Four worked buying briefs
These are hypothetical scenarios with explicit assumptions. They do not establish equal capabilities, measured usability or a negotiated price.
| Requirement | Proposed exercise | Accept when |
|---|---|---|
| Connector entitlement | Map a source-to-destination feed to the proposal | All required services and runtimes are listed |
| Quality ownership | Trace a rejected synthetic row to remediation | A named owner can inspect and correct it |
| Metadata coverage | Inspect one required field’s lineage path | Supported coverage and gaps are explicit |
| Commercial scope | Reconcile workload growth with committed capacity | Consumption, overage and implementation terms are written |
Customer data feed
Can the proposal cover the real source and destination requirements?
Informatica IDMC: Map each source, connector, service and runtime to the written offer.
Qlik Talend Cloud: Map each source and capability to the selected edition and execution arrangement.
Use the same field and freshness requirements instead of comparing broad connector counts.
Rejected record
Who sees and repairs a row that fails a quality rule?
Informatica IDMC: Specify the purchased rule, exception and remediation workflow.
Qlik Talend Cloud: Specify the edition-supported rule and exception workflow.
A quality percentage is insufficient unless the owner can locate and repair the rejected record.
Lineage request
Can a steward explain where a report field came from?
Informatica IDMC: Identify the catalog and lineage services and supported systems in scope.
Qlik Talend Cloud: Identify the included metadata and lineage coverage for the selected edition.
Inspect one actual source-to-report path; do not equate a platform diagram with complete field-level coverage.
Annual commitment
Can procurement relate committed capacity to workload growth?
Informatica IDMC: Request the applicable IPU definitions, service scope and overage terms.
Qlik Talend Cloud: Request capacity bands and the applicable volume/execution/duration rules.
Include implementation, support and parallel migration runs rather than assuming a licence quote is the full programme cost.
Use one shared implementation brief
List the source systems, required fields, freshness, quality rules and downstream consumers in the same brief for both proposals. Separate mandatory requirements from later phases. This prevents a broad enterprise suite from appearing equivalent to a narrower integration edition merely because both can copy a table.
For each quality rule, identify what happens to a failed row, who receives the exception and how the corrected record returns to the pipeline. For governance, inspect the actual metadata path that matters to the organisation. Ask for gaps to be recorded in the written scope.
Keep product history out of entitlement assumptions
Current Qlik Talend Cloud is a commercial offering; Talend Open Studio was retired in January 2024. An old free-software comparison is therefore a poor guide to its present edition or capacity. Similarly, an existing Informatica product relationship does not establish entitlement to every IDMC service.
Request the contractual metric definitions beside the technical design. Informatica consumption units and Qlik capacity dimensions are not interchangeable. Budget for migration, connector setup, runtime operation and support, including the period when old and new pipelines both run for reconciliation.
Questions before you choose
Is Qlik Talend Cloud the free Talend Open Studio?
No. Talend Open Studio was retired. Current Qlik Talend Cloud has commercial editions and capacity-based terms.
Does IDMC include every Informatica service in one price?
Do not assume that. Specify purchased services, runtimes, capacity and support in the proposal.
Can IPUs be converted directly into Qlik capacity?
No generic conversion is established here. Apply each offer’s definitions to the same workload and request a scoped estimate.
