Backup buying comparison

IDrive vs Acronis True Image

Compare pooled multi-device backup with personal image-backup subscriptions, including cloud quota, local destinations and whole-machine recovery planning.

START WITH YOUR BUYING BRIEF

Are you buying pooled storage or a recovery design?

Shortlist IDrive when a shared online-backup quota across multiple devices is central to the requirement. Evaluate Acronis True Image when personal-computer image recovery, local backups and cloning are priorities, while checking the selected cloud tier. IDrive also has disk-image capabilities, so do not reduce the decision to file backup versus images. Compare the exact data, devices and recovery task covered by the retained plan.

Three household computers

How much combined data must fit in the cloud?

IDrive: Sum the selected data across devices and choose the appropriate account scope.

Acronis True Image: Check licensed computer count and cloud quota on the chosen tier.

Three devices with different data sizes are not the same as three equal storage allocations.

Local recovery without cloud storage

Can the user keep and restore a local image?

IDrive: Evaluate the relevant local or image-backup workflow on the exact platform.

Acronis True Image: Review whether Essentials meets the proposed local recovery requirement.

Include the backup drive and a documented recovery procedure in either budget.

A small free pilot

Can a harmless sample set fit without a recurring charge?

IDrive: Use the 10 GB Basic allowance for a deliberately limited test.

Acronis True Image: Treat the available trial as time-limited evaluation access.

A small sample establishes a procedure; it does not prove a large production dataset will fit.

A company needs central policies

Is the consumer comparison still the right buying scope?

IDrive: Evaluate Team or Business entitlements for the actual organisation.

Acronis True Image: Review Acronis Cyber Protect rather than assuming True Image supplies business management.

Reframe the shortlist when ownership and workload requirements change.

Size the data before choosing a plan

Inventory the data actually selected for backup and identify duplicate archives, cloud placeholders and external storage. Then state a growth assumption for the period you intend to keep the subscription. A large promotional headline can still be the wrong purchase if the chosen plan has unsuitable user or computer boundaries.

Keep local backup media in the same design. A local copy can serve a different recovery task from an offsite copy, and each needs a restore procedure. IDrive’s pooled online storage and True Image’s computer-and-tier selection should be compared against one common inventory, not different sample datasets.

Choose the recovery task and intended audience

Define whether the priority is an accidentally deleted file, a failed disk or replacing a whole personal computer. Document the steps and extra resources needed for that event. Image and cloning capabilities have operating-system and configuration conditions, so evaluate the exact device instead of generalising from a feature name.

If the request grows into server protection or centrally governed staff devices, revisit the product scope. True Image is a personal offering, while Acronis sells separate business Cyber Protect editions. IDrive also distinguishes Personal from Team and Business. A plan change can therefore alter administration and workload rights as well as storage.

Questions before you choose

Is Acronis True Image still a current product?

Yes. Acronis currently offers True Image for personal backup, recovery and security. It is separate from its business Cyber Protect product.

Does every True Image tier include cloud backup?

No. Essentials is local-only for backup storage. Review Advanced or Premium and their current quota when cloud backup is required.

Does IDrive have a permanent free plan?

Yes. IDrive Basic advertises 10 GB without a credit card. Larger storage and additional plan scope require a paid choice.

Is IDrive only file backup?

No. The official feature set also includes local and disk-image backup capabilities. Confirm the operating system and recovery workflow needed for the specific device.

Turn the comparison into your own evaluation

Use the same criteria and priorities for both products, keep unknowns unassessed and record the plan and evidence behind your ratings.

Keep the assumptions with the figures
