Google Analytics vs Adobe Analytics
Compare measurement design, enterprise scope and the operating work behind digital reporting.
Which measurement programme are you building?
Evaluate Google Analytics when the brief centres on website and app measurement connected to a Google marketing stack. Evaluate Adobe Analytics when enterprise digital reporting, Analysis Workspace and an existing Adobe implementation are central requirements. Match the actual analytics products and operating costs: a free Standard property and an enterprise Adobe quotation are different commercial starting points.
Seven differences that change the shortlist
| Buying question | Google Analytics | Adobe Analytics |
|---|---|---|
| Primary focus | Website and app events, acquisition and engagement | Enterprise digital analytics and investigation |
| Analysis workflow | Reports and explorations | Analysis Workspace projects and segments |
| Commercial entry | Free Standard; paid Analytics 360 separate | Tailored paid digital analytics package |
| Collection design | Events, parameters and key events | Implementation-specific dimensions, metrics and reporting design |
| Adjacent products | Advertising and data integrations have their own scope | Customer Journey Analytics and other Adobe products are distinct |
| Implementation work | Tagging, event validation and identity design | Data design, implementation and governed reporting |
| Budget boundary | Internal work and connected-service usage | Contract, implementation and ongoing analytics operations |
Four worked buying briefs
These are hypothetical scenarios with explicit assumptions. They do not establish equal capabilities, measured usability or a negotiated price.
| Requirement | Evidence to collect | Acceptance condition |
|---|---|---|
| Measurement scope | An agreed journey, events and relevant context | Both evaluations answer the same defined question |
| Collection quality | A synthetic journey reconciled with expected records | Counts and missing context can be explained |
| Commercial scope | Written plan limits and operating responsibilities | Every required capability has an owner and a budget |
| Review process | A short report and follow-up action | The intended team can repeat the investigation |
New lead-generation website
Can an enquiry be reconciled from landing page to a confirmed submission?
Google Analytics: Define a key event and validate acquisition context.
Adobe Analytics: Ask how the same event and channel dimensions would be implemented.
Hypothetical brief: reconcile a small synthetic set against form records before reviewing channel reports.
Existing Adobe programme
Does the analytics team need continuity with an established reporting model?
Google Analytics: Map the work needed to replace dimensions, segments and reporting habits.
Adobe Analytics: Demonstrate the required questions in the existing Workspace approach.
Document the cost of changing the operating model, including training and parallel reporting.
Warehouse requirement
Which data must leave the analytics interface?
Google Analytics: Specify export destinations, volumes and connected-service costs.
Adobe Analytics: Specify the required data feed or export entitlement in the quote.
An attractive dashboard is insufficient if the downstream reporting contract cannot be met.
Enterprise upgrade decision
What requirement justifies the additional contract?
Google Analytics: Separate a Standard limitation from a genuine Analytics 360 requirement.
Adobe Analytics: Identify the Adobe package and support commitments needed.
Use a written requirement rather than treating a paid tier as inherently more accurate.
Define the measurement contract before the platform
Write down one business outcome, the events that represent it and the records used to reconcile it. Separate a completed purchase from a button click and define how cancellations or duplicates are handled. This gives both implementations the same target.
A migration can change counts even when neither tool is broken. Identity, time zones, attribution choices and event triggers can all differ. Agree which changes are acceptable and how the team will explain breaks in historical reporting.
Compare the actual enterprise products
Google Analytics Standard, Analytics 360 and Adobe digital analytics should each be scoped explicitly. Adobe’s wider catalogue contains separate analytics products, so a family name does not establish that a quoted package includes cross-channel journey analysis.
Ask for a responsibility list covering tags, data quality, reports, access administration and support. The practical cost comparison is the subscription plus the recurring work required to keep the measurement trustworthy.
Questions before you choose
Is Google Analytics free?
Google Analytics Standard has no subscription charge. Analytics 360 is a separate paid offering, and implementation or connected services can still cost money.
Is Adobe Analytics the same as Customer Journey Analytics?
No. Adobe lists digital analytics (Adobe Analytics) and Customer Journey Analytics as separate products within its analytics catalogue.
Can I transfer historical reports without changes?
Do not assume identical historical reporting. Map event, identity, dimension and attribution definitions, then decide which periods can be compared meaningfully.
Which one gives better conversion accuracy?
There is no universal winner established here. Validate the implemented event definitions and reconcile a controlled set of outcomes against business records.
Turn the comparison into your own evaluation
Use the same criteria and priorities for both products, keep unknowns unassessed and record the plan and evidence behind your ratings.
