Marketing software comparison

Buffer vs Later

Compare Buffer and Later for scheduling queues, visual planning, channels versus social sets, included users, approvals and the limits of free or trial access.

START WITH YOUR BUYING BRIEF

Which workflow fits your team?

Consider Buffer when its channel-based workspace and selected collaboration plan fit the content operation. Consider Later when visual planning and its social-set package fit the campaign. Count the actual profiles on each network, the people who need access and the posts awaiting publication before comparing allowances.

Buffer: Count every connected channel in the proposed Buffer plan.

Later: Map each account into the proposed Later social sets.

Every required profile and user is included in the retained quote.

Publishing brief

Can the required post format follow the intended publishing path?

Buffer: Check the chosen network and format with an authorised test profile.

Later: Check the equivalent network and format with an authorised test profile.

Required direct-publishing or reminder steps are understood.

Approval change

What happens when an approved draft needs revision?

Buffer: Exercise the retained Team workflow where required.

Later: Exercise the retained collaboration workflow where required.

The final revision has the expected approval and owner.

Busy calendar

Can the normal and peak schedule fit the retained limits?

Buffer: Count queued posts and refill requirements.

Later: Count each profile’s relevant publishing allowance.

The calendar fits without an assumed unlimited free or trial allowance.

A queue size is not a monthly send allowance

Buffer Free currently permits ten scheduled posts in each connected channel’s queue, which can be refilled as posts publish. Do not interpret that as a fixed ten-post monthly allowance. Write the desired calendar and inspect the queue at its busiest point.

Later’s plans use a different set of account and publishing boundaries. Map the profiles and planned posts to the actual package. A bundle containing one profile for each network may fit one brand differently from several accounts on the same network.

Keep the approver in the retained package

A solo draft-and-publish process can work with different access from an agency process that needs an external approval. Name the actual editor, approver and substitute before assuming a low entry price covers the full workflow.

Validate the intended format and network permissions with a controlled post or approved draft. Network API support can shape the publishing path. This page does not claim measured engagement, optimal posting performance or equal channel capabilities.

Questions before you choose

Is Buffer Free limited to ten published posts per month?

Its current limit is ten queued scheduled posts per channel and the queue can be refilled. It is not presented as a fixed ten-post monthly allowance.

Is a Later social set the same unit as a Buffer channel?

No. A Later social set groups network profiles, while Buffer prices connected channels. Map your actual profile combination before comparing totals.

Do all entry plans include team approvals?

No. Approval and collaboration scope depends on the retained plan. Include every editor and approver in the package check.
