Buffer vs Hootsuite

Compare Buffer and Hootsuite for publishing-focused work, collaboration, social inbox needs, free access and the wider listening and reporting package.

START WITH YOUR BUYING BRIEF

Which workflow fits your team?

Shortlist Buffer for a publishing and community workflow that fits its selected channel-based plan. Shortlist Hootsuite when a retained Social OS package fits a broader publishing, inbox and intelligence brief. Build the package around the required tasks; do not assume that a basic queue needs the full suite or that a free workspace covers every team role.

Start with the operation you actually run

A small team planning posts can have a different brief from a business combining publishing, customer responses and listening research. Write a minimum set of tasks and owners before looking at a suite demonstration.

Buffer’s ongoing Free tier has limited channel, queue and user scope. Hootsuite’s current trial is temporary. Compare the retained packages that meet the brief rather than placing a temporary full-feature demonstration beside a limited free workspace.

Verify an action, not only a network logo

A listing of a supported network does not prove that every content format, comment action or account type is available. Use the actual permitted account type and expected publishing or response path in the evaluation.

Record whether an action publishes directly, needs a notification or requires native-app work. Scope that operating effort alongside the subscription without claiming measured time savings or universal feature parity.

Questions before you choose

Does Hootsuite currently offer a permanent free subscription?

The current published offer is a 14-day trial with restrictions and retained paid plans. It is not an ongoing free plan.

Does Buffer Free include every team feature?

No. Free has one user and limited channels and queue size. Confirm collaboration and approvals in the retained plan.

Is listening the same as replying to comments?

No. Listening investigates conversations and coverage, while engagement handles actions on connected accounts. Define each requirement separately.
