Hosting route changes what the budget must include

Shopware’s pricing explanation distinguishes SaaS with a managed application and hosting, PaaS with managed infrastructure and more development flexibility, and self-hosted operation arranged by the merchant or partner.

Decide which responsibilities the business wants to retain. Comparing a bare server price with a managed commerce service produces an incomplete result because the work included differs.

Put responsibilities beside the quoted fee

Shopware describes PaaS infrastructure pricing as requirement-dependent. Leave its amount blank until the actual workload and support responsibilities are agreed.

Price a workload rather than a server label

Imagine a fictional wholesaler with a large overnight product import and a smaller daytime order flow. Record catalogue size, updates, storefronts, background jobs and peak orders. A page-visit estimate alone does not describe this workload.

Ask which environment runs the acceptance test and how closely it represents production. A development server demonstration cannot establish how the live import and order queues will behave together. Set a measurable requirement and record the actual observed result later.

Avoid two common budget errors

First, do not add a separate generic hosting fee to a SaaS quote without checking what is included. Second, do not price self-hosting as only the monthly server bill. Application updates, monitoring, restoration and integration support still need an owner.

The PaaS description is useful for a responsibility discussion, but the business’s contract must settle the exact boundaries. Include extensions and implementation separately where they are outside the service.

Choose with the maintenance owner

Record the deployment route, custom code, operator, support coverage, recovery plan and renewal. Review whether the team can maintain the required scope after launch.

Use the Shopware plan-pricing guide, Community Edition policy guide and Shopware profile. Hosting responsibility and licence eligibility are related but separate decisions.

Frequently asked questions

Should every Shopware quote include a separate server fee?

No. Shopware describes hosting as included in SaaS. Review the actual service before adding infrastructure a second time.

Is self-hosted Shopware cost just the hosting invoice?

No. Assign application updates, monitoring, backups, recovery and integration maintenance as well as infrastructure.
