Is Adobe Premiere free?
Premiere on desktop is a subscription product with a time-limited trial. Premiere’s mobile apps offer free core editing. Those are different access arrangements: a free phone editor does not give you a permanent desktop licence, and optional mobile storage or generative AI can add costs.
Start by naming the device and the editing job. Adobe’s UK trial page and mobile FAQ describe these routes separately. This guide reviews them on 16 October 2026 and uses a fictional edit brief for your own evaluation.
Choose the right app before comparing “free”
| Route | What to evaluate | Cost boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Premiere desktop | The full desktop editing and project workflow. | Individual trial followed by a paid subscription unless cancelled. |
| Premiere on Android or iPhone | Phone/tablet editing on supported devices. | Core mobile editing is free; extra storage and generative credits can be paid. |
| Adobe Express Free | Basic video and other content creation in a browser or on mobile. | A separate free edition with its own feature and asset limits. |
Keep the app name, device, operating system, account and retained plan in the brief. “Adobe video editor” is not specific enough to establish the entitlement. Use the Premiere profile for the software overview and Premiere versus DaVinci Resolve for a different desktop editing shortlist.
How does the desktop trial and UK price work?
The reviewed individual Premiere trial lasts seven days and begins when you check out, rather than when you eventually open a project. It converts to paid membership unless cancelled before the trial ends. Record the actual start, end and retained offer; business or other offers can have different terms.
The UK individual Premiere plan card displays £21.98 per month including VAT, annual and billed monthly. At an unchanged rate, twelve fully paid monthly periods total £263.76 for that base plan. This is a calculation from the displayed reference, not an annual upfront payment or a complete production budget.
A monthly payment on an annual plan is different from a month-to-month commitment. Read the actual subscription and cancellation terms before starting. Keep the checkout’s currency, tax, commitment, renewal and included services with your decision. The calculation excludes a trial, promotions, price/tax changes, optional purchases, equipment and staff time; a team quote has a different commercial scope.
What is free on Android and iPhone?
Adobe’s mobile FAQ lists free apps for Android and iOS, with generative AI credits and additional storage as paid options. The core editing route and an optional generative purchase are separate decisions. Use the current technical requirements and your device’s store listing to check eligibility before planning around the app.
The two mobile versions have different feature coverage. Android automatic captions are listed as coming soon in the reviewed FAQ. Check the actual app/version against the text, caption and export requirements in your brief; a planned feature is not evidence that it works today.
Adobe’s Android overview describes Play Store availability and a layered timeline. The sample below uses a short edit with clear acceptance conditions. Record a missing or unsupported requirement as a gap rather than describing an unperformed mobile test as successful.
Can a mobile project continue on desktop?
The supported route depends on the platform. The reviewed Android FAQ says sending an Android project to desktop is not currently supported. The iPhone/iPad desktop-transfer guide describes uploading a copy of the project and media through Adobe cloud storage, then importing it into desktop Premiere. Desktop use still needs the appropriate entitlement.
This is a handover of a copy, not continuous two-way editing: subsequent changes do not automatically sync between those copies. Adobe also lists unsupported transferred features, including captions and some effects. If handover matters, test it as a separate requirement using the actual source device, destination version and account.
A playable exported video and an editable project are different deliverables. Agree which one the next editor needs, and whether the necessary media and features survive the handover.
Is Adobe Express a free desktop Premiere alternative?
Adobe Express Free provides standard video-editing and content-creation tools in desktop browsers and on mobile, with limited assets and its own plan boundaries. It can be a candidate for a short content task; it is a different application from the Premiere desktop editor.
Compare the result you need: a simple social clip, a design-led post or an editable production project. Check the actual template, asset and required export before committing. The Express profile and Canva versus Adobe Express comparison cover the broader content workflow. Check existing bundle entitlements before buying another subscription.
Try the same 15-second editing brief
This fictional brief proposes one portrait video. A01, A02 and A03 are labels for footage of 10, 12 and 8 seconds. Keep a 4-, 5- and 3-second selection, then add a 3-second closing title card. No footage, stock asset, generated media or completed app export is supplied.
| Segment | Source selection | Timeline interval | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| E01 · A01 product detail | 1–5 of 10 seconds | 0–4 seconds | Show the product clearly. |
| E02 · A02 demonstration | 2–7 of 12 seconds | 4–9 seconds | Show the main action. |
| E03 · A03 result | 1–4 of 8 seconds | 9–12 seconds | Show the result. |
| E04 · Proposed closing card | New 3-second title card | 12–15 seconds | Keep the closing message readable. |
The selected footage totals 12 seconds; the closing card makes the proposed timeline 15 seconds. Intervals use an exclusive end boundary and hard cuts. No overlapping transition, speed change or frame-rate calculation is modelled. These are planning seconds, not observed application timecodes.
In an authorised evaluation, use media you can use, then check framing, readable text, captions if required, audio and the actual exported file on the intended phone. Repeat the same brief in each shortlisted app. If an editable handover is required, inspect that separately from the final video.

The six-check worksheet records edition/device, billing, the common edit, text/export, project handover and ongoing cost. Actual results, plan details, evidence and decisions are blank. A free app that completes the required job can be enough; a desktop production brief may justify the paid workflow.
List any required storage, generative credits, licensed assets, plug-ins and collaboration services beside the base fee. Use the software cost checklist to separate supplier payments from setup and staff time. This article has not started a trial, entered a payment method, purchased credits, installed an app or operated an Adobe project.

Is Adobe Premiere Pro free to use?
Premiere desktop has a time-limited trial and then needs a paid subscription. Premiere on Android and iPhone offers free core mobile editing, with optional paid storage and generative credits. The mobile app is not a permanent free desktop licence.
What is the Adobe Premiere Pro price in the UK?
The reviewed UK individual plan displays £21.98 per month including VAT on an annual plan billed monthly. Twelve unchanged fully paid months total £263.76 for the base plan. Confirm the current checkout and commitment; this excludes optional purchases and other production costs.
Is Adobe Premiere free on Android?
The reviewed Adobe mobile FAQ lists a free Android app. Device and feature requirements still apply, while additional storage and generative AI credits can cost extra. Check the actual Android app rather than assuming every iPhone capability is available.
When does the 7-day Premiere desktop free trial start?
The reviewed individual trial starts at checkout, not when you first open the editor. It converts to a paid membership unless cancelled before it ends. Record the actual offer and deadline; other subscription offers may differ.
Do Premiere mobile projects automatically sync with desktop?
No. The reviewed iPhone/iPad workflow sends a copy through Adobe cloud storage, and later edits do not automatically sync between the copies. Some features do not transfer. The reviewed Android FAQ says its desktop-project transfer is not currently supported.
Is Adobe Express Free the same as free Premiere?
No. Express Free is a separate browser/mobile content app with standard video-editing tools and its own asset and feature limits. It does not provide a permanent licence to the Premiere desktop editor.
