BigCommerce costs: GMV thresholds and payment-provider fees

In this guide
  1. Plan capacity and payment routing can both affect cost
  2. Use the documented GMV measurement
  3. Work a mixed-provider example
  4. Model growth before choosing annual billing
  5. Keep the quote and classification evidence

Plan capacity and payment routing can both affect cost

The checked BigCommerce pricing page lists Core at US$39 monthly or US$29/month billed annually, Growth at US$105 or US$79, and Scale at US$399 or US$299. Prices exclude taxes.

The same page distinguishes payment providers. Orders through listed Embedded Payment Providers avoid the additional platform fee; Open Payment Provider fees are 2% on Core, 1% on Growth and 0.6% on Scale. Processor charges remain a separate question.

Use the documented GMV measurement

The 2026 plan update and pricing page describe GMV-based thresholds and changes as sales grow. The checked Core and Growth references are US$30,000 and US$100,000 trailing-twelve-month GMV. BigCommerce describes GMV using gross order value with a 10% reduction.

Use the platform’s definition and period. A rough annual sales estimate or a count of web orders alone may not match the relevant figure. Ask who reconciles the included channels and checks a forecast near a threshold.

Work a mixed-provider example

Base planCore monthly billingUS$39
Eligible Open-provider GMVUS$1,000 at 2%US$20
Platform subtotalBase plus assumed eligible feeUS$59

The example does not apply the fee to every order. Classify the actual payment route and use its applicable order-level basis. A zero additional platform fee for one route does not mean zero processor cost.

Model growth before choosing annual billing

Record current capacity, expected sales, required storefronts and payment mix. Ask how a plan change affects the remaining commercial term. A lower annual monthly equivalent should be considered alongside the expected growth path and amount due upfront.

For a fictional merchant, model an ordinary month, a campaign month and a larger retained plan. Keep the application features and support requirements in the same brief. The smallest current subscription is not necessarily a complete forecast for a growing business.

Keep the quote and classification evidence

Retain the named plan, currency, tax basis, billing period, GMV definition, provider classification and extra applications. Confirm the current provider list when making the decision because programmes and terms can change.

Use the BigCommerce profile, BigCommerce versus Ecwid comparison and WooCommerce operating-cost guide for alternatives. Compare matched orders and responsibilities rather than selecting a winner from one fee line.

Frequently asked questions

Is BigCommerce’s payment-provider fee the card processor’s fee?

No. The additional platform fee and the processor’s charges are separate cost lines. Check the actual provider classification.

Should I use ordinary turnover as BigCommerce GMV without checking?

No. Use BigCommerce’s current definition, included channels and relevant measurement period.
