How much does MySQL Enterprise Edition cost?
Oracle’s available list gives MySQL Enterprise at US$5,350 per server per year for the 1–4 socket band and US$10,700 for 5+ sockets. The USD list is dated 11 September 2025 and was checked on 16 October 2026. These are annual subscription references, not a current UK quote or a complete hosting budget.
See page 2 of Oracle’s MySQL price list (PDF). Confirm the actual commercial terms before budgeting. Dividing an annual amount by twelve gives a monthly equivalent, not evidence of monthly payment availability.
Which MySQL product are you buying?
| Route | Starting point | Budget to establish |
|---|---|---|
| Community Edition | Freely downloadable GPL software | Infrastructure, operations and any separately arranged services. |
| Enterprise Edition | Commercial database subscription | Covered servers, socket bands, term and required feature scope. |
| Hosted database service | A provider-operated deployment | Actual provider, region, resources and usage. |
MySQL Community Edition is available under the GPL. A free software download does not establish a paid Enterprise entitlement or include managed hosting. Check the exact edition and version in the application’s support requirements.
Start with the MySQL profile for product fit. If changing engines is an option, compare PostgreSQL and MySQL or MySQL and MariaDB against the actual application workload.
Count the server scope before multiplying a price
The commercial edition notes use a server metric, with price bands based on occupied sockets. A socket houses a processor chip or module; it is not the same count as the cores within it. The notes include development, testing, backup and recovery installations in the commercial agreement requirement, alongside production.
Build an inventory that identifies the machine, edition, environment, hardware and coverage. A list of database schemas or application users is not that inventory. Keep virtual-machine and shared-host arrangements as questions for the written quote instead of inferring a charge from vCPU count.
In the example below, every priced row is a separate dedicated physical machine assumed to need the Enterprise subscription for a full unchanged year. No virtualisation, failover, standby or other contractual exception is inferred.
A six-deployment inventory with one unresolved row
These six records are fictional. Five are dedicated physical servers; V01 is a virtual machine awaiting scope confirmation. The hardware counts illustrate the difference between cores, sockets and vCPUs.
| ID / purpose | Deployment | Hardware supplied | Socket band | Annual base reference |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| P01 / Production | Dedicated physical | 2 occupied sockets / 16 cores | 1–4 | $5,350.00 |
| P02 / Replica | Dedicated physical | 2 occupied sockets / 32 cores | 1–4 | $5,350.00 |
| Q01 / Quality assurance | Dedicated physical | 1 occupied socket / 8 cores | 1–4 | $5,350.00 |
| D01 / Development | Dedicated physical | 1 occupied socket / 4 cores | 1–4 | $5,350.00 |
| R01 / Recovery | Dedicated physical | 8 occupied sockets / 64 cores | 5+ | $10,700.00 |
| V01 / Integration test | Virtual machine | 8 vCPUs; host not supplied | Unresolved | Unknown |
P01 has eight application schemas on one machine. P02 is a different replica machine. Q01 and D01 are proposed Enterprise installations for testing and development. R01 has eight occupied sockets; its 64 cores do not become 64 server subscriptions. V01’s eight vCPUs do not establish its socket band.
Reconcile the subtotal without inventing a complete price
Four physical machines in the smaller band give 4 × $5,350.00 = US$21,400. One larger-band machine adds $10,700.00. The five priced rows therefore produce a $32,100.00 annual list-reference subtotal.
That figure excludes V01, taxes, discounts, conversion, price changes and all infrastructure and service work. The complete software subscription amount is unknown, and so is the complete deployment cost. A subtotal remains useful when its missing population is explicit.
The download separates the five priced rows from the unresolved row and leaves actual quote fields blank. Reconcile the provider’s response back to the inventory. If the quote changes the machine scope, edition or term, rebuild the calculation from those agreed inputs.
What should the Enterprise evaluation demonstrate?
The Enterprise overview lists additional backup, audit, external authentication and security tooling. Choose the capabilities the application actually needs. A feature name alone does not establish that a restore, audit policy or identity connection works in your environment.
| Need | Controlled exercise | Evidence to collect |
|---|---|---|
| Recovery | Restore an approved test backup to the intended target. | Recoverable point, elapsed time and an application-level check. |
| Audit | Run an agreed allowed action and a rejected action. | Expected event fields, access to the log and retention handling. |
| Authentication | Check an approved account and a removed account. | Identity mapping, permitted access and failure behaviour. |
Agree the target result before running an authorised test, and record the actual edition and version. None of these exercises was executed for this article. Compare the evidence with the existing operational approach before attributing a saving or reliability benefit.
Does the subscription cover support and database operations?
The annual commercial offering includes Oracle Premier Support. The separate support lifecycle page distinguishes release stages: Sustaining Support relies on pre-existing fixes, while Innovation releases have a shorter update window. Confirm the selected release and service terms.
Technical support and running the deployment are different budget lines. Assign responsibility for capacity, operating-system updates, backup storage, restore rehearsals, monitoring and incident handover. Record supplier charges and internal hours separately with the software total-cost worksheet.
Keep the quote’s included support in the subscription line so it is not added again as an assumed compulsory surcharge. Price additional services only when the quote or deployment plan calls for them.
Is MySQL HeatWave priced the same way?
The reviewed Oracle cloud price list separates database compute, storage, backup storage, network transfer and HeatWave capacity units. A hosted-service estimate therefore needs the actual configuration and usage assumptions. The annual self-managed server references above are not a substitute for that estimate.
Ask who operates the service, which region and deployment are proposed, how backups are retained and what traffic is expected. Compare the same workload, recovery requirement and operational responsibility. Leave unquoted costs blank rather than replacing them with the on-premises subtotal.

Replace the fictional hardware with a verified inventory before requesting an actual quote. The files do not discover servers, determine contractual entitlement, import data or change any deployment. No Oracle account, subscription, database, support case, purchase or restore was operated.
Frequently asked questions
How much does MySQL Enterprise Edition cost per year?
The reviewed USD list, dated 11 September 2025, gives $5,350 for a 1–4 socket server and $10,700 for a 5+ socket server annually. Checked on 16 October 2026; confirm the actual regional quote and coverage.
Is MySQL Enterprise Edition free like Community Edition?
Community is freely downloadable GPL software. Enterprise is a separate commercial offering. Identify the exact edition, required features and operating costs.
Is MySQL Enterprise priced per core or per server?
The reviewed Enterprise subscription uses a server metric with occupied-socket bands. Cores, application users and schema counts are different measures. Confirm the exact deployment scope in the quote.
Can I treat the annual price divided by twelve as a monthly payment?
No. That produces a monthly equivalent for comparison. It does not establish a monthly payment option or a shorter commitment.
Do development, testing and disaster recovery need to be included?
The commercial edition notes include those environments in the agreement requirement. Inventory the actual Enterprise installations and obtain written confirmation of their treatment.
Can eight vCPUs determine my MySQL Enterprise licence cost?
The example leaves that virtual-machine row unresolved because the host and commercial scope are not supplied. Do not infer an occupied-socket band solely from eight vCPUs.
Is Premier Support an extra charge on the annual subscription?
Oracle’s edition notes include Premier Support in the annual offering. Confirm release-specific coverage and any separately proposed services instead of adding the same support twice.
Does the MySQL Enterprise server price include HeatWave hosting?
The annual references do not establish a hosted-service total. Oracle’s cloud price list uses separate resource and usage measures; build an estimate for the actual service and region.
