Choose the business-type view before comparing prices
The rendered Clear Books pricing page checked on 20 October 2026 has separate business-type tabs. Under All organisations with monthly billing, it lists Small £16, Medium £34 and Large £44 per month, plus VAT.
The sole-trader view is a separate offer: a free tier, Sole Trader at £5 and Sole Trader Plus at £15/month plus VAT. Do not compare a sole-trader card with an all-organisations card merely because both contain the word accounting.
Identify the feature that selects the plan
The checked all-organisations cards place VAT submissions and purchase orders in Medium, and multi-currency, project accounting and employee expense approvals in Large. Treat those as feature gates to confirm for your actual business.
Imagine a fictional company that needs invoice entry, supplier purchases and foreign-currency transactions. Even if its transaction count is modest, the currency requirement may matter more than size labels. Record the required workflow before using a word such as Small as a buying recommendation.
Budget the correct billing period
| All-organisations plan | Monthly rate | 12 unchanged months |
|---|---|---|
| Small | £16 | £192 |
| Medium | £34 | £408 |
| Large | £44 | £528 |
The public page also has yearly and two-year views and introductory terms. A discounted monthly equivalent is not the same thing as a monthly payment. Capture the selected period, amount payable now and renewal with the quote.
Keep add-ons and service work visible
List payroll, receipt or bill capture, payments and accountant work separately. Confirm which are included in the selected business-type offer and which need an additional charge. Similar feature labels in different tabs should be checked against the retained package.
For the fictional company, model a normal month and a month with more purchases or expense claims. Assign an owner to record capture and approvals. The quote should explain both the supplier fees and the internal work that remains.
Make the review reproducible
Retain the business-type tab, billing choice, review date and a short list of mandatory features. In an authorised trial, enter a harmless invoice and purchase, inspect the required report and verify the intended colleague or accountant access.
Use the Clear Books profile and first-year cost worksheet approach for the next step. For other providers, compare UK accounting plans on the same scope. Do not treat a successful invoice demonstration as evidence that every required filing or integration is covered.
