01 / Overview

What is Apple Pages?

Apple Pages creates word-processing and page-layout documents on Apple devices, with a separate Pages for iCloud web app. It supports document collaboration and exports for recipients using other software.

Who is Apple Pages for?

Apple-device users producing documents and layouts with a planned export or browser-based review route for other people.

Choose a document type before designing it

Pages covers flowing text documents and page layouts. A report and a poster may start with different document types, even when both contain text and images. Apple’s Pages support hub connects to the Mac, iPhone and iPad guides.

Plan the recipient’s editing route at the start. A Pages document, an exported Word copy and a final PDF can serve different purposes; name the retained master so later revisions stay in one place.

02 / Capabilities

Apple Pages features

The core capabilities to consider for your workflow.

  • Word-processing and page-layout document types
  • Pages for iCloud browser collaboration
  • Word, PDF and EPUB export on Mac

Pages for iCloud provides a browser route

Apple’s iCloud guide describes creating and editing on Mac or Windows through a supported browser, with Apple Account access and document sharing. This is separate from a native Windows desktop application.

Use the actual recipient’s browser and account arrangement for a proposed review. Confirm whether they need to edit the shared document or only read a delivered copy. Browser access does not establish complete feature parity with every device app.

04 / Buying checklist

Before you choose Apple Pages

  • Windows access is through Pages for iCloud in a supported browser, rather than a native Windows Pages application.

  • Smart annotations are omitted from exported Word documents; choose the handover format deliberately.

  • Apple Creator Studio premium content and features are separate from free core Pages editing.

Check smart annotations before a Word handover

Apple’s Mac export guide explains that smart annotations do not appear in exported Word files. PDF has separate options for including smart annotations and comments. Choose the appropriate output for the reviewer’s task.

For a fictional marked-up proposal, request an editable Word copy and a review PDF as separate deliverables. Reopen both before treating the handover as complete. Explore other word processors when the recipient needs a different authoring workflow.
